Interview: Director Kelly Fremon Craig of "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret."

I’m an assistant film editor for FilmObsessive and I was able to sit down with writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig. Her debut feature, The Edge of Seventeen was one of my favorite of 2017. Now, she has been trusted to adapt Judy Blume’s beloved novel, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

It’s been 53 years since the novel was originally published and many have tried (and failed) to buy the rights to adapt the book into a movie. Fremon Craig grew up loving Blume’s work and after she finished The Edge of Seventeen, she was looking for her next project. When she reread Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret., Fremon Craig knew she had found her next project. She just had to get Blume to agree. All it took was one heartfelt email and the rest is history.
